ouis Vuitton’s
spring and summer 2012 showing in Paris, wasa bold feminine fashion
fantasy. The
“runway” was a carousel, set up
in the extraordinary Louvre Cour Carrée!
According to Marc Jacobs, artistic director, “there's a carousel in the Tuileries, and I'm a
hopeless New York Francophile, and it's very Paris ..... It's
also a bit of a metaphor about this cycle of fashion and how it goes around and
around, and regardless of what your references are, whatever you choose to look
at, it's just cyclical...We had one of the horses in the office, because all
the girls had to pose on it during the fittings.”

P
astel blues, pinks,
soft yellows and mint greens set the mood, except for a handful of greys and
navies with bright white underskirts peeping through flower-shaped holes. Broderie anglaise, a type of embroidery with little eyelets
edged in buttonhole stitches, was the keystone of the look, with whimsical,
oversized daisies adorning buttoned-up blouse collars, skirt suits and dresses.
